Brian Newbury

Materials Technology Advisor, ExxonMobil

Brian Newbury joined the ExxonMobil Development Company in 2006 after completing BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering at Lehigh University.  In Brian’s 14 years at ExxonMobil, he has held a number of technical and managerial roles focused on supporting upstream project construction and startup.  Much of his work has been on challenging pipeline materials (strain-based design, sour service) or subsea applications.  From 2014 to 2019 Brian lead a team of materials engineers within ExxonMobil to identify the root causes of local hard zones in line pipe material, assess their impact on pipeline cracking in various sour environments, and ultimately qualify line pipe suppliers for future ExxonMobil projects involving sour service pipelines.  He is currently a Materials Technology Advisor in the ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company, where he focuses on developing and qualifying new materials and related technologies for use within ExxonMobil.

Luc Lam-Thanh

Pipeline Materials Specialist, Total E&P

Luc Lam-Thanh is a Pipeline Materials Specialist for Total Exploration and Production. Having a background in material engineering he completed a Ph.D. on pipeline weld flaw acceptance criteria in 2003 at Ecole Des Mines Paris. Since then, he has worked in the oil and gas industry holding positions in materials, welding, corrosion and integrity management with various companies. Since 2017 he has been leading the TMCP line pipe manufacturer requalification program for Total.

Hervé Marchebois

Materials and Corrosion Specialist, Total E&P

Hervé Marchebois is Materials and Corrosion specialist at Total E&P. Following a Ph.D. in Electrochemistry and Corrosion, he has 20+ yrs of experience in the O&G industry. His background is Risk Based Inspection (upstream and downstream), metallurgy/steel making and corrosion in operation in various companies. He is currently in charge of metallic material selection, metallurgy and cracking assessment in H2S containing environments. Hervé is involved in the definition of Company specifications, standardization and currently serves as secretary of the Maintenance Panel of NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156.

Carmelo Collura

Research and Development Manager, Dillinger

Carmelo Collura is the Research and Development Manager for TMCP rolled steels for pipes at Dillinger, in charge of their metallurgical design and the development of new technical steel solutions to answer key market issues such as low temperature toughness, heavy wall HIC and especially SSC resistance. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree in Materials Science from Saarland University, Germany.

Graham Alderton

Technical Manager, Liberty Pipes Ltd.

Graham joined Steel Industry in 1988 as a technician within the research and development centre of British Steel. Studying as day release whilst working lead to a BEng in Manufacturing Systems with Business from Teesside University in 1998. He joined the SAW Mills at Hartlepool in 2000 as then Section Manager for Technical Enquiries and then on to his current role of Technical Manager in 2005. He has been the pipe mill’s technical lead on numerous line pipe projects thereby gaining exposure to plate rolling and sour service testing. He was directly involved with the TMCP qualification programs with two of the majors.

In addition to his work commitments, Graham also represents Liberty Pipes as a corrosion committee member of the EPRG, member of the DNVGL Line Pipe Committee and a member of ISE/103  structural steels committee. Graham is a married with three daughters.

Phil Dent, BSc MPhil CEng FIMMM

Global Corrosion Specialist, Element Materials Technology 

Phil is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM) and has been a Member of NACE since 2007. He has a BSc (Hons) in Metals Technology and an MPhil by corrosion research from the University of Birmingham.

Phil has over 40 years of experience in the fields of metallurgy and corrosion, including over 30 years of experience in corrosion testing and consultancy, with a focus on sour service corrosion and cracking.He is the chair of the Marine Corrosion Forum (MCF), an active member of a number of NACE and ISO technical committees, including the Document Project Manager of NACE TM0284, Secretary of NACE TG299 and Convener of IOGP 3845.
