NACE Western Area Conference 2016

NACE International

November 30 - December 2, 2016  |  Hyatt Regency  |  San Francisco, CA

The Western Area Conference will feature five tutorials in the areas of Cathodic Protection, Coatings, Use of Galvanized Steel, Basic Measurements in Corrosion Control and Concrete in addition to the other technical tracks. For more information on these tutorials, please see below:

The CP tutorial is an introductory 3.5-hour hands-on tutorial that introduces the attendees to the subject of cathodic protection. Course topics include a discussion of corrosion theory and CP concepts, types of CP systems, AC and DC stray current interference, and basic field measurement techniques. This tutorial provides both theoretical knowledge and practical techniques for testing and evaluating data to determine the effectiveness of both galvanic and impressed current CP systems and to gather design data.

The 3-hour tutorial thoroughly and systematically covers every aspect of coatings application and inspection techniques, maintenance and repair procedures. Coatings selection, specifications, applications and relevant industry standards for surface preparations of various substrates such as steel and concrete. This coatings tutorial trains the participants with the knowledge and skills required for effective coatings inspection, maintenance and repair of coatings (or paints).

The purpose of this 1.5-hour seminar is to inform and educate architects, engineers, and other specifies about hot-dip galvanized steel and how it can address the growing corrosion problem throughout North America.  Upon completion of this seminar, you will be able to, recognize the corrosion issues confronting North America, describe how zinc coatings, specifically hot-dip galvanizing, can protect against steel corrosion, incorporate sound corrosion protection into the design of steel products that can significantly reduce maintenance costs over the life of a project.

This is an introductory 3.5-hour hands-on tutorial that provides in-depth knowledge of measurement techniques utilized in the corrosion industry in general and cathodic protection industries in particular. The talk is geared towards field technicians who perform NDT, Cathodic Protection, Coating Assessments and Visual Inspections in the field. Hands-on experience will be provided to attendees on rectifier measurements, structure-to-soil measurements, ultrasonic thickness testing, coating thickness testing, CIS, etc.

Speaker Presentation Deadline: October 17, 2016
