NACE FirstService is working diligently to address questions and inquiries regarding CORROSION 2020. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this process. We have developed the following FAQs to assist you in obtaining an answer quickly. Please check this website periodically for updates.

General Information

Q: Why did NACE decide not to host CORROSION 2020?

A: Due to circumstances beyond NACE’s control, arising from the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and the continuing danger it presents to public health and safety, the CORROSION Conference & Expo will not take place in 2020.

 

Q: Will CORROSION 2020 be rescheduled for later in the year?

A: CORROSION 2020 will not be rescheduled. However, NACE International is committed to delivering a world-class event for the corrosion community and we are already working to make CORROSION 2021 in Salt Lake City,Utah one of our best events yet.

 

Q: Will CORROSION 2020 be held virtually?

A: The CORROSION Conference & Expo will not be held virtually. NACE is exploring innovative new pathways to share content to the larger corrosion community which will include virtual events. As information becomes available, updates will be provided on the NACE events page.

 

Q: What is the status of committee meetings I planned to attend at CORROSION 2020? Will they be rescheduled?

A: NACE staff liaisons will work with committee officers to determine the best path forward for their committees to meet in the coming months.  

 

Registration 

Q: What happens to my CORROSION 2020 registration fees? Can I transfer my registration to CORROSION 2021? Will refunds be provided?

A: To ensure that the organization can continue to serve the corrosion community, we encourage attendees,exhibitors and sponsors to defer registration and fees to CORROSION 2021. For attendees who would prefer to request a refund, NACE International’s First Service team can be reached at firstservice@nace.org or by phone at 1-800-797-6223 (U.S./Canada)or +1-281-228-6223 worldwide. Refund requests must be received by 11:59 p.m.CDT on Friday, May 29, 2020. Any remaining registrations will be transitioned to the CORROSION 2021 Conference & Expo.

 

Q: Can I donate my registration fee to the NACE Foundation?

A: The NACE Foundation continues to be the only organization of its kind dedicated to preparing the future generation of corrosion professionals who will protect the world’s infrastructure from the effects of corrosion. The NACE Foundation invests in scholarships, training, and workforce development programs that affect the lives of students, teachers, and veterans. If you would like to support the NACE Foundation, please contact firstservice@nace.org to request that your fee be applied as a tax-deductible gift to the Foundation.

 

Q: I registered to attend a Corrosion Technology Series (CTS) event, will this still be held?

A: The CTS sessions will be held virtually. Please contact Melissa Craig at melissa.craig@nace.org for additional details.

 

Q: I registered to attend the Protective Coatings Workshop will this still be held?

A: The Protective Coatings Workshop will not be held in 2020.  Your registration will be automatically transferred to the 2021 Workshop that will take place at CORROSION 2021 next April in Salt Lake City. If you would prefer to request a refund, NACE International's First Service team can be reached at firstservice@nace.org or by phone at 1-800-797-6223 (U.S./Canada) or +1-281-228-6223 worldwide. Refund requests must be received by 11:59 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 29, 2020. Any remaining registrations will be transitioned to the CORROSION 2021 Conference & Expo.

Travel

 

Q: If I booked my hotel through the official housing provider, Conference Direct, how do I cancel my reservation?

A: All reservations made through the official housing block via http://nacecorrosion.org will automatically be cancelled due to force majeure. No action is required from attendees to process the cancellation. Cancellation confirmations will be sent from the hotel directly. Please keep in mind that this type of communication can often end up in a ‘spam’ or ‘junk’ folder so please ensure you review your email thoroughly. If you have any urgent questions, please contact NACE@conferencedirect.com. Given the anticipated volume of inquiries, your patience is greatly appreciated as you may experience a delay in response time as we work through this process.You may also call (877) 305-5195 Monday- Friday 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM EST.

 

Q: Can I get a refund for my hotel reservation if I did not reserve in the official room block?

A: If you elected to book outside of the official room block, you will have to work directly with the third-party used for booking(i.e., Expedia, Priceline, Hotwire, etc.) or the hotel directly to determine if the reservation can be modified or if cancellation fees may apply.  

 

Q: I’m an exhibitor that reserved a sub-block for housing at CORROSION 2020. What will happen to my sub-block of rooms?

A: All reservations made through the exhibitor sub-block will automatically be cancelled due to force majeure. No action is required from exhibitors to process the cancellation. Cancellation confirmations will be sent from the hotel directly. Q: Will NACE be reimbursing flight cancellation/rebooking fees?

A: NACE is not liable for costs related to travel to Houston. Please contact your specific airline carrier to inquire about their change/cancellation policy.

 

Programming and Education

 

Q: I was scheduled to present at CORROSION 2020. Will I be able to present at the CORROSION 2021?

A: Authors that were scheduled to present at CORROSION 2020 will be able to resubmit their paper for CORROSION 2021.  The 2021 Call for Papers deadline has been extended to June 1, 2020 and submissions can be submitted HERE.

 

Q: Will my CORROSION 2020 content automatically be included for CORROSION 2021?

A: Accepted authors for CORROSION 2020 can resubmit for consideration for CORROSION 2021 for their respective session.  Authors can re submit their paper at HERE until June 1, 2020.

 

Q: I was scheduled to present at CORROSION 2020 but will be unable to present at CORROSION 2021.  Are there other opportunities for my presentation content to be delivered through NACE?

A: Yes, authors unable to participate in CORROSION 2021 have several options available. Note: Submitting your work for consideration does not guarantee acceptance for publication.

  2. Consideration for a Future Virtual Event
  3. CORROSION Journal
  4. Materials Performance Magazine
  5. Alternate NACE Publications (i.e., podcasts, book chapters, etc.)

 

Q: Will the conference proceedings still be available from CORROSION 2020?

A: No, the technical papers from CORROSION 2020 will not be published. This provides authors the ability to present their work via the options listed above. NACE staff will contact authors throughout the year to discuss opportunities that may align with new conference or publication topics and works previously included in the technical program for CORROSION 2020.

 

Q: My presentation was scheduled for CORROSION 2020 – can I submit it to another organization?

A: Yes, your abstract can be submitted to other organizations. Please note, if you present the content elsewhere, you will be unable to present the same published work again at CORROSION 2021.

 

Q: Is NACE planning to offer any virtual events later this year?

A: NACE is grateful for your expert knowledge and we are exploring new pathways to share your content with the larger corrosion community. As information becomes available, updates will be provided HERE.

 

Q: If I had a meeting scheduled for CORROSION 2020 will it be automatically rescheduled for CORROSION 2021?

A: Meetings for CORROSION 2020 will not be automatically rescheduled and will need to be resubmitted for CORROSION 2021.  Please contact your NACE International staff liaison to submit a meeting request.

 

Q: If I was scheduled to present in a forum will I be automatically accepted for CORROSION 2021?

A: Presenters for forums will be given priority for CORROSION 2021 but will need to resubmit their forum request here by June 1, 2020.

 

Q: If I was scheduled to present in the Protective Coatings Workshop will I be automatically accepted for the CORROSION 2021 workshop?

A: Please contact Meghan Leyva at meghan.leyva@nace.org for further details about the workshop at CORROSION 2021.

 

Research and Student Poster Sessions

 

Q: Will NACE consider a virtual poster presentation?

A: NACE staff is evaluating exciting options to allow students to share their research and knowledge via a virtual poster session later this summer prior to the start of the 2020-2021 academic year. The virtual poster session would include a judging session and the standard award categories. As soon as a decision is made, NACE will send an update with details and deadlines to all students with accepted abstracts in the poster session from CORROSION 2020.

 

Q: What will happen to the Research in Progress and Research Topical Symposia planned for CORROSION 2020?

A: The Research Committee will convene in the coming weeks to conduct its meeting that typically occurs at the annual conference to discuss the best path forward for the topics from CORROSION 2020 and opportunities for CORROSION 2021. As soon as information is available, we will send an update to all individuals involved with the RIP/RTS symposia.

 

Exhibits and Sponsorships

 

Q: Will exhibit booth fees be refunded?

A: To ensure that NACE can continue to serve the corrosion community, exhibitors and sponsors are encouraged to defer their registration and fees to CORROSION 2021. For exhibitors and sponsors that would prefer to request a refund, please contact Jackie Foster (Jackie.Foster@nace.org) by 11:59 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 29, 2020. After that date, any remaining exhibitors and sponsors will automatically be transferred to CORROSION 2021. NACE will begin processing refunds in June 2020. Completing these requests will take time; your patience as we work through this task is greatly appreciated.

 

Q: Will sponsorship fees be refunded?

A: To ensure that NACE can continue to serve the corrosion community, exhibitors and sponsors are encouraged to defer their registration and fees to CORROSION 2021. For sponsors that would prefer to request a refund, please contact Rosalind Hoang (Rosalind.Hoang@nace.org). Refund requests must be received by 11:59 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 29, 2020. Any remaining sponsors after this date will be transitioned to the CORROSION 2021 Conference & Expo.

 

Q: A third-party company contacted me about purchasing the CORROSION 2020 attendee or exhibitor list, is this a legitimate list?

A: No. NACE International has been made aware of several “unofficial” companies contacting our exhibitors and sponsors by phone and email, to solicit business, attendee lists, hotel rooms, etc. If you are contacted by anyone attempting to sell an attendee list, please forward the email to staff so a cease and desist letter can be sent to the company. If you are concerned by any other solicitations you receive related to our conference,please forward it to us to confirm legitimacy of the vendor. NACE International does not provide (or sell) our exhibitor lists or attendee lists to companies;we do provide a GDPR compliant list of registered attendees who have each personally opted-in to being included on the list.

 

Q: Will CORROSION 2021 booth selection for exhibitors still take place?

A: Yes. NACE exhibits staff will send information via email to the main exhibit contact for each company regarding CORROSION 2021 booth assignment. The booth selection process will be administered remotely and will proceed according to exhibitor priority point order. If you have any questions, please contact Jackie Foster at jackie.foster@nace.org.

 

Q: What will happen to my priority points as a result of the CORROSION 2020 cancellation?

A: Current priority points will carry over for the CORROSION 2021 booth selection process.

 

Q: Will exhibitors be refunded for services provided by official partners (Freeman, AV,Lead Retrieval, etc.)?

A: NACE International has reached out to our official service providers and they are aware that CORROSION 2020 will not take place. CORROSION 2020 exhibitors should work directly with their contracted vendors to resolve any questions related to refunds and contracted services.

 

Q: Howwill my freight stored at the Freeman warehouse be returned?

A: NACE Exhibits staff will work with Freeman for exact details on returning shipments in the coming days. Due to the mandatory Stay Home/Work Safe order, Freeman has closed its warehouse until the order has been lifted which is currently in effect until May 20th. While the order is in effect, your freight will be stored at the Freeman warehouse and you will not be charged any storage fees. On May 20th, David Briley will send out an update on whether the order has been extended or lifted and he will provide additional information, as necessary. CORROSION 2021 Questions

 

Q: What are the dates for CORROSION 2021?

A: CORROSION 2021 is scheduled to be held in Salt Lake City,Utah from April 18-22, 2021.

 

Q: When will registration and housing information become available for CORROSION 2021?

A: CORROSION 2021 registration and housing information will be available in October 2020.
