As Senior Standards Specialist and Corporate Project Manager for External Standards Management, Strategy and Policy, Laura Hitchcock serves as The Boeing Company’s enterprise-wide focal for issues regarding government, industry and international standards activities and has responsibility for external standards policy and strategy for the company.   She has been working with standards for over 45 years, the last 32 with Boeing’s Corporate Standards Organization.   For the last 22 years, Laura has been responsible for administration and coordination of Boeing’s participation in the development of external standards and their use and integration into the Boeing Standards System.   Laura leads company efforts to develop strategic standardization management plans and policies that leverage Boeing’s standards activities to support corporate goals.  Laura is also responsible for dealing with IP and copyright issues related to industry standards and for conducting benchmarking of standards activities with other companies.   Laura co-chairs Boeing’s External Technical Affiliations Integration Board which works to help Boeing manage and leverage its relationships with technical organizations (many of which develop standards). 

 To support Boeing’s goals to pro-actively engage with external standards systems, Laura serves on a number of standards related governing bodies.  Laura was the founding chair of AIA’s Standards Governance Board and the Strategic Standardization Forum for Aerospace, and currently chairs the US TAG for ISO/TC20 Aircraft and Space Vehicles.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the American National Standards Institute, ANSI’s International Policy Committee and has served as Boeing’s representative on ANSI’s Company Member Forum for the last 19 years.  Laura is a member and past chair of SAE International’s Aerospace Council (the governing body over the largest aerospace standards program in the world), and is a member of the SAE Technical Standards Board.  She is also ASME’s Senior Vice President for Standards and Certification and Chair of ASME’s Council on Standards & Certification.   Laura currently represents Boeing on the Industry Cooperation on Standards and Conformity Assessment (ICSCA), and the NAM International Standards and Conformity Assessment Working Group. She was a co-founder and Secretary for the Commercial Jet Transport Standardization Committee which worked to standardize non-competitive parts and materials for the commercial aviation industry.  Laura is a past member of the IEEE Standards Association’s Board of Governors, ASTM International’s Board of Directors and SAE International’s Board of Directors.

Laura has authored numerous standards related papers and articles and received many awards including the W.T. Cavanaugh Memorial Award, the Leo B. Moore Medal, the ANSI Meritorious Service Award, the SAE International Outstanding Achievement Award, the George S. Wham Leadership Medal, IFAN’s George Garel Award, and the J. Cordell Breed Women’s Leadership Award.
